About Our Speakers
Scott Miller, Ph.D. conducts workshops and trainings in the United States and abroad and is known for his engaging and humorous presentation style. He has presented to many professional audiences including the American Psychological Association, the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the International Congress on Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, the International Society for the Study of Multiple Personality and Dissociation, and the National Association of Social Workers. He is the author of numerous articles and co-author, with Insoo Kim Berg, of Working with the Problem Drinker: A Solution-Focused Approach and The Miracle Method. His most recent books are Escape From Bable, Working With Difficult Cases, The Handbook of Brief Therapy and Heart and Soul of Change.
Bob Bertolino, Ph.D. is the Senior Director of Clinical Training and Clinical Director of Early Childhood Programs at Youth In Need, Inc., in St. Charles, Missouri. He is also founder of Therapeutic Collaborations Consultation and Training, a training associate at the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change, an international associate for the Sycol Foundation/Brief Therapy Centre, and an assistant adjunct professor in the departments of counseling/family therapy and social work at St. Louis University, Behavioral Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Rehabilitation Counseling at Maryville University. Dr. Bertolino has authored or co-authored seven books including Therapy with Troubled Teenagers: Rewriting Young Lives in Progress, Even from a Broken Web: Brief, Respectful Solution-Oriented Therapy for Sexual Abuse and Trauma, The Residential Youth Care Worker in Action: A Collaborative, Competency-Based Approach, Collaborative, Competency-Based Counseling and Therapy and the forthcoming The Therapist’s Notebook for Families: Solution-Oriented Exercises for Working with Parents, Children, and Adolescents. He teaches workshops nationally and internationally on collaborative, competency-based approaches to psychotherapy and clinical hypnosis. Dr. Bertolino is licensed as a marital and family therapist, professional counselor, and clinical social worker in the state of Missouri and is a National Certified Counselor.
Matthew D. Selekman, MSW is a highly seasoned couples and family therapist in private practice and the co-director of Partners for Collaborative Solutions, an international family therapy training and consulting firm in Evanston, Illinois. Matthew received the Walter S. Rosenberry Award in 2000 and in 1999 from The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado for having made significant contributions to the fields of psychiatry and the behavioral sciences. He is the author of numerous family therapy articles and four professional books: Living on the Razor’s Edge: Solution-Oriented Brief Family Therapy with Self-Harming Adolescents; Solution-Focused Therapy with Children: Harnessing Family Strengths for Systemic Change; Pathways to Change: Brief Therapy Solutions with Difficult Adolescents; and Family Therapy Approaches with Adolescent Substance Abusers. Matthew has presented workshops on his Solution-Oriented Brief Family Therapy approach with challenging children, adolescents, and adults extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Australia.
Clifton Mitchell, PH.D, Licensed Psychologist, HSP, has a love for teaching and over 17 years experience as a trainer and motivational speaker. He delivers practical information in a uniquely entertaining, fast-paced style that is filled with examples from his years of experience in mental health. In 2002, he received the Teacher of the Year award at East Tennessee State University. For the past nine years, he has studied and presented seminars on methods for dealing with resistance in therapy. In his book, Effective Techniques for Dealing with Highly Resistant Clients, he compiled the best ideas and approaches on managing resistance that, before now, were scattered throughout the mental health literature. He has published in numerous professional journals including the Journal of Personality Assessment, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Psychology and Education, Journal of Psychological Type, The Professional School Counselor, and The Advocate. His ideas and writings have also been published in Men’s Health Today and Barron’s Financial Weekly. Dr. Mitchell is currently a full professor in the counseling program at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
